James Fisher Marine Services and Oil Management and Services have carried out an oil exchange for Senvion’s turbines at the 325MW Thornton Bank offshore wind farm off the Belgium coast.
The work involved the removal and disposal of oil from three of Senvion’s machines using James Fisher’s ship-to-turbine exchange system.
The system uses vacuum preheating and filtration technology, which eliminates the need to fill and hoist oil containers via the nacelle crane and thus reduces turbine downtime, the company said.
James Fisher Marine Services managing director of renewables Martin Sisley said: “Environmental containment was the main issue, especially as we were working in Belgian waters with its very strict environmental laws, and we are very pleased that the project was completed with zero contaminants or spills.”
