Pre-assembly of turbine towers for Statoil’s 402MW Dudgeon wind farm off Norfolk has kicked off at Siemens’ new staging facility in Hull.
Several full towers for the 6MW hardware – the first to be shipped from the £160m Alexandra Dock development – have been completed.
UK heavy-lift specialist ALE is working on the job with support from Notus Heavy Lift Solutions.
Fabrication of the first blade components for the 67-turbine project have also begun at the new manufacturing plant at the site.
Siemens is officially opening the factory next week at a launch event in Hull.
A2Sea jack-up Sea Challenger will start installing the 6MW hardware at Dudgeon from the site on 2 January 2017 with each machine to be commissioned as it is completed.
Statoil is hoping for a mid-year completion date for turbine installation and for full commissioning by the end of the year.
Seaway Heavy Lifting vessel Oleg Strashnov completed the installation of all 67 Sif-made monopiles earlier this year and also installed a Sembmarine-built offshore substation and jacket.
VBMS also completed the installation of both 45km export cables made by NKT Cables.
