EEW Special Pipe Constructions has won a contract from Dong Energy to fabricate 116 monopiles for the 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm, which will be located off the UK’s Yorkshire coast.
The company said a total of 91,800 tonnes of steel will be manufactured for the order from March 2017 through to April 2018.
The foundations, which will support Siemens 7MW turbines, will have a diameter of up to 8.1 metres, EEW said.
Hornsea 1 is scheduled to be operational in 2019 and will comprise a total of 174 turbines.
