Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has adopted a corrosion protection standard that will become a mandatory part of planning permission procedures for the offshore wind industry.
The standard – “Corrosion Protection for Offshore Wind Turbines and Wind Farm Components” – was developed by industry group VGB PowerTech and the country’s Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute.
“With this work, VGB and BAW have increased planning security for the offshore wind industry and, in doing so, created further impetus for the energy transition,” said Hans Bunting, chairman of VGB PowerTech and renewables executive at utility Innogy.
“Generally valid standards assist all those involved in the planning and operation of plants,” he said.
