The German federal maritime and hydrographic agency BSH has launched a new round of preliminary investigations of offshore wind farm sites in the North Sea.
Three areas in the German Exclusive Economic Zone are being investigated that could have projects operational from 2027 and 2028, BSH said.
One site called N-7.2 is 52km squared and is about 82km north of Borkum. A wind farm could commissioned in the area in 2027, the agency said.
The two other sites – N-3.5 and N-3.6 – are adjacent to the first and 50km north of Borkum.
N-3.5 is about 26 square kilometres in size, while N-3.6 is 32km squared. Both sites could have projects operational by 2028, BSH added.
A series of studies of the areas will be carried out over the next few year to determine the marine environment, subsoil, wind, waves and other oceanographic parameters.
The results will be analysed by BSH to see if the sites are suitable for the construction of offshore wind farms.
Interested parties have until 4 March to provide feedback to BSH on the scope of the preliminary investigations.
On 20 March, BSH will outline and discuss the investigation plans.
