Fugro’s Synergy geotechnical survey vessel has set sail to Dong’s 1GW Bay State wind farm site off the Massachusetts coast.
The research vessel is expected to spend about 15 days exploring the site.
The 340-foot vessel will test bottom conditions by taking shallow core samples in 18 specific locations identified by an earlier research expedition.
Dong expects to spend the next three years collecting data and performing detailed assessments of the 76,000-hectare lease area.
The Danish company secured a lease last year for the area about 15 miles off Martha´s Vineyard to develop Bay State, its first offshore wind project in North America.
