Specialist coatings provider Barrier and rope access company UK Total Solutions have collaborated to complete remedial painting and maintenance work on the 630MW London Array wind farm in the Thames Estuary.
The work involved coating system repairs to two offshore substations and on 13 wind turbine transitions pieces, as well as bolt-tightness checks on the wind farm’s met mast.
It took 14 weeks and was completed ahead of schedule, despite unseasonal weather delays during the early part of the summer, the companies said.
They added that the job was carried out by a 10-man team, including specialist coating technicians and rope access professionals to minimise the need for offshore scaffolding.
The team was based at the London Array’s operation and maintenance headquarters in the port of Ramsgate.
The London Array is owned by Eon, Dong Energy, Masdar and Canadian pension fund La Caisse.
