Finnish consultant Poyry has won an engineering contract for a pumped storage hydro project in Mexico.
Poyry said it will prepare a pre-feasibility study for local utility Generadora Fenix.
The task includes geology, topography and hydrology studies, as well as regulatory framework, identification of main components, risk assessment, constructive procedures, project schedule and economic/financial analysis.
Pumped storage hydro plants can generate power whenever it is required, helping mitigate the variability of wind and solar generation, Poyry said.
“Delivering clean, renewable energy, projects like this can aid economic growth and social progress and help alleviate poverty in developing countries,” Poyry head of hydropower Markku Oksanen said.
