MHI Vestas has been selected as preferred supplier for the 252MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
Developer British Wind Energy, part of the Highland Group, is planning to kick off installation of V164-8.0MW hardware in 2019.
The manufacturer said the award “underlines the growing presence of MHI Vestas in the German market”. The deal includes a 15-year service agreement.
Project chief executive Albert Jochems said: “We have seen keen interest by the wider industry in the Deutsche Bucht project owing to it being one of the few remaining projects in Europe with a grid connection, permit and a feed in tariff without the need to participate in an auction.
“We look forward to working closely with MHI Vestas and our other partners to make every success of this exciting project”.
MHI Vestas chief Jens Tommerup said: “Being nominated for our second project in Germany underlines the strength of the V164-8.0MW as a competitive turbine for the market, where distance from the coast and deeper waters demands a larger and more powerful machine.
Deutsche Bucht is located around 95km from shore. It was originallly developed by Windreich.
