Turbines are beginning to dot the sky at EDP Renewables North America’s 100MW Amazon US Central wind project in Ohio.
EDP is installing 48 Gamesa G114 2.1MW machines at the Paulding County site in the northwest corner of the state.
Infrastructure & Energy Alternatives is the general contractor, EDPR spokesperson Blair Matocha told reNEWS.
An eight-and-a-half mile 138kV line will tie into American Electric Power’s Lincoln-Sterling transmission circuit, part of the PJM interstate grid that supplies an Amazon data centre.
“We anticipate the wind farm will achieve COD status by the end of the year,” said Matocha.
The Amazon US Central project is expected to produce about 320,000 MWh a year.
The wind farm is adjacent to the Portuguese developer’s 99MW Timber Road 2 wind farm, which became operational in 2011 and features 55 Vestas V100 1.8MW turbines.
