Enel Green Power Brasil Participações has started construction of the 103MW Horizonte solar plant in the state of Bahia in north-eastern Brazil.
The new facility, which once completed will be able to generate over 220GWh a year of electricity, is owned by a special purpose vehicle held by EGPB and is expected to enter into service in the second half of 2017.
Enel will invest about $110m in construction of the facility.
Horizonte will be supported by a 20-year supply contract with the Brazilian Chamber of Commercialisation of Electric Energy.
Enel Group is also building another two solar projects in Bahia: the 254MW Ituverava and 158MW Lapa plants.
Horizonte will be located next to Ituverava, meaning that EGP will be able to pool resources both during the construction and operation of the two projects, the company said.
