A Siemens-chartered Service Operation Vessel (SOV) has kicked off operations at the 600MW Gemini wind farm off the coast of the Nertherlands.
Vessel-owner BS Offshore said the Ulstein-made SOV will support the “ongoing service and maintenance” of the project’s 150 Siemens 4MW turbines.
“The vessel functions as a reliable and environmentally sound platform for wind farm operations and maintenance support, technician accommodation and transport, and the provision of exceptional levels of safe reliable access to installations offshore,” said BS Offshore.
Named Windea La Cour, the vessel was delivered last month and underwent final preparations including the installation of the Siemens SCADA system.
Its first service campaign kicked off on 1 September, BS Offshore added.
“As the global leader in offshore wind service and the first company to deploy purpose-built SOVs, Siemens is dedicated to the development of innovative offshore service logistics that support efforts to bring down the costs associated with wind energy,” said the German giant’s head of maritime solutions René Cornelis Wigmans.
