Developer Cennergi has started operating the 95MW Tsitsikamma community wind farm in South Africa.
The Eastern Cape project near Port Elisabeth features 31 Vestas V112 turbines rated at 3.075MW, the Exxaro and Tata Power joint venture said.
Cennergi won support for the project in the second round of South Africa´s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program back in 2012.
The other project awarded to the developer, the 134MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm, was commissioned last month.
Both have taken Cennergi´s operational porfolio in the country to 229MW.
“The commissioning of the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm has further augmented Tata Power’s renewables portfolio outside India and represents the company’s commitment and progress on its objectives of enhancing non-fossil based generation portfolio up to 30-40 percent of its total generating capacity,” Tata Power chief executive Anil Sardana said.
