Developer Cennergi has confirmed that its 138MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm in South Africa has entered full commercial operation.
The Eastern Cape project near Bedford features 56 Nordex N117 turbines rated at 2.4MW.
Cennergi, which is a joint venture between Exxaro and Tata Power, bought the rights to the project from Windlab in 2011.
Construction began last July and the wind farm was one of the schemes selected following the second round of the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
The JV owns 95% of the project with the Cookhouse Community Trust and the Bedford Community Trust owning 2.5% each.
