Avangrid Renewables has selected GE turbines for the 132MW Tule 1 wind project in California, Avangrid communications manager Paul Copleman told reNEWS.
The US manufacturer will supply 57 2.3MW machines to the 14,000-acre site, located about 70 miles east of San Diego.
Construction is slated to kick off in September and wrap up in about 12 months.
The wind farm will connect to the grid via a San Diego Gas & Electric substation in the town of Boulevard.
Southern California Edison has signed on to a 15-year power purchase agreement for the output.
The project is expected to deliver more than $39m in local and state tax benefits over 25 years.
Avangrid, formerly Iberdrola Renewables, is also developing the 69MW Tule 2 wind farm, located on state property. It’s scheduled to go before the State Lands Commission in October.
“We’re very interested in developing and building new projects in California, to help fulfill the state’s RPS goals, and to address climate change,” said Copleman.
“We’ve worked on these projects for a long time and are excited at the progress,” he said.
