The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has granted a Development Consent Order to SP Manweb’s North Wales wind farms connection project.
Business Secretary Greg Clark approved the grid link that will connect two Contracts for Difference-backed wind farms – China General Nuclear Europe’s up to 37.6MW Brenig and RWE Innogy’s 96MW Clocaenog Forest.
The decision paves the way for the construction next year of a 17-mile 132kV overhead line between TAN Area A and SP Manweb’s St Asaph grid substation.
RWE’s Clocaenog Forest project manager Martin Cole said: “Clocaenog Forest will make an important impact on helping to tackle climate change.
“The project could also support an injection of up to £40m into Wales’ supply chain during the construction alone and could bring up to £19m in community investment funds over the lifetime of the project.”
The Planning Inspectorate issued a report of recommendation to former Energy Secretary Amber Rudd on 28 April.
