TenneT has awarded a €5m contract to DNV GL to certify the offshore substations for the 700MW Borssele 1&2 wind farm, which will be located off the coast of the Netherlands.
The TSO said it plans to build five platforms connecting two 350MW wind farms approximately 25km west of the Dutch coast.
The substations will carry HV switching and transformation equipment, as well as auxiliary facilities, TenneT said.
Intake power from the wind farms will be 66kV with export power 220kV. The topsides will weigh approximately 4500 tonnes and will be 45 metres long, 21m wide and 30m high.
TenneT said that there were four bidders for the certification job, with DNV GL providing the lowest price.
The Dutch government awarded Dong Energy the rights to develop Borssele 1&2 earlier this month.
Both 350MW projects are expected to be built by mid-2020.
