Slovenia’s Kolektor Etra is to supply transformers to the offshore substation for Dong Energy’s 448MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 project in the German North Sea.
Heerema Marine Contractors has the contract to transport and install the HSM Offshore-built substation for the project, with Danish engineering consultancy ISC having tackled design of the unit.
The substation’s jacket foundation is expected to be installed in the third quarter of 2017, with the topside following in the second quarter of 2018.
Dong has until 1 July in 2018 to start offshore construction, but is expected to start in the first quarter of that year.
Borkum Riffgrund 2 will be located 34km north of Borkum island, with 52 turbines to the west and four to the east of the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 project.
It will consist of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW machines with rotor spans of 164 metres. Fred Olsen Windcarrier will install the turbines.
Borkum Riffgrund 2 is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2019.
