NextEra Energy Resources has kicked off construction of the 200MW Kingman Wind Energy Center in Kansas.
The project, which is located near near Kingman, is scheduled to reach commercial operation by the end of 2016.
Westar Energy will buy the electricity generated by the center, which will be developed and operated by NextEra.
Half the electricity will go to Westar wholesale partners Midwest Energy and the cities of McPherson, Chanute, Iola, Fredonia and Sabetha through energy management service agreements.
The other half will serve Westar’s retails customers, the company said.
