Siemens is to award CS Wind UK preferred supplier status for multiple offshore wind tower projects.
The announcement comes on the same day CS Wind UK starts work on the country’s first offshore wind tower factory at its Campbeltown base in Scotland.
The £27m investment is set to increase production volume at the existing onshore wind tower unit and allow for the fabrication of larger diameter towers for offshore wind.
It is expected to create 160 new jobs at the upgraded facility, which already employs 175 people.
CS Wind UK also signed a memorandum of understanding with Vattenfall yesterday committing both companies to co-operation over potential future contract and supply opportunities for the Swedish company’s UK development pipeline.
CS Wind UK managing director Young-Jae Ryu said: “CS Wind UK’s investment is a strong signal that UK manufacturers and suppliers have an important part to play in the development of offshore wind farm projects, securing jobs and a long-term future for the local economies.”
