Global Marine Systems’ cable installation vessel CS Sovereign is ready to start work on Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger project in the German Baltic Sea.
Cable provider Prysmian signed a charter contract last year with Global Marine Systems to use the vessel to install inter-array cables at the project.
The CS Sovereign (pictured), which is currently dry docked in Bremerhaven port, is purpose built for the work and equipped with two, powered 2300 tonne ‘basket’ turntables.
The turntables are designed to operate at a maximum linear speed of 900 metres an hour, Global Marine Systems said.
The installation is slated to start soon, and is expected to be wrapped up in early 2017
Foundation installation at the Wikinger project is already underway.
Cable Enterprise recently started installing a section of the 90-km Ostwind 1 grid link, which will connect Wikinger and the Eon/Statoil 385MW Arkona wind farm to an onshore substation in Lubmin.
