Fred Olsen Windcarrier jack-up Brave Tern has installed the first turbine at Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The vessel is installing 70 Adwen 5MW wind turbines at the project 30km northeast of the island of Rugen.
The turbine components are being loaded out in sets of three, including the pre-assembled 135-metre diameter rotor, from Mukran port in Sassnitz.
Iberdrola Germany head Jürgen Blume said: “We are happy to have reached another milestone of Wikinger’s construction programme.
“Our Wikinger project is making good progress, and we are on target with our plans for full export at the site later this year.”
“Installation of all 70 jacket foundations was completed last month as was laying of the array cables.”
In November last year, Bladt Industries delivered the final jacket to the Wikinger site. The first nacelles and tower segments for the turbines also arrived at Mukran in that month.
In December, Boskalis Giant 7 completed piling of the foundations, while Taklift 4 was on the job for jacket installation.
The Wikinger project is Iberdrola’s first offshore wind farm off the German coast.
