US developer NextEra Energy Resources has signed an agreement with Kingman County in Kansas, allowing construction to begin for the 200MW Kingman wind project.
The $26.4m 30-year deal includes a payment in lieu of taxes (Pilot) scheme for $800,000 a year for the first 20 years and $700,000 a year thereafter.
If the electrical capacity of the wind farm increases, the Pilot will increase by $4000/MW for the first 20 years and $3500/MW a year thereafter.
The agreement also includes permit fees, road and decommissioning costs.
NextEra representative David Gil told commissioners the company is ready to begin construction immediately.
The Kingman project is expected to become operational by the end of 2016.
Westar Energy has agreed to buy the electricity generated by the wind farm. As part of the deal, Westar will also have the option to purchase one-half of the facility before its completion.
