Westar Energy has launched a $350m green bond scheme for investors to help finance additional renewable energy projects.
The proceeds of the bond will be used to invest in wind energy projects, primarily the construction of the 280MW Western Plains wind farm in Ford County, Kansas.
The project, which will consist of 122 Siemens SWT108 2.3MW turbines, should be operational by early 2017.
Westar Energy chief financial officer Tony Somma said: “As we continue to diversify the way we produce energy, it makes sense for us to offer a green bond so investors can diversify their portfolios.”
