Tekmar Energy has installed and removed a cable protection system from mock-up offshore foundations without the need for divers at The Underwater Centre subsea training and trials facility in Fort William.
The company said the demo is important because future offshore wind farms projects will be installed in increasingly deeper waters where diving becomes more dangerous and costly.
The demo, which was observed by industry players including Dong Energy, VBMS, Jan de Nul and CWind, took place over two days in March.
Tekmar said on the first day the removal operation was performed on a mock-up j-tubeless monopile foundation, while the second day the same work was carried out on a mock-up j-tube.
“Both demonstrations were considered successful with operations being completed considerably quicker than expected,” the company said.
