Appalachian Power has agreed to buy 120MW from NextEra Energy Resources’ Bluff Point Wind Energy Center, which is to be constructed in Jay and Randolph Counties in Indiana.
Appalachian said the 20-year power purchase agreement will increase its total wind capacity to 495MW.
NextEra will own and operate the wind farm, which is scheduled to be operating by 2018.
The purchase agreement has been filed by Appalachian in a request submitted 1 June to the Virginia State Corporation Commission for approval and inclusion in the company’s Renewable Portfolio Standard Rate Adjustment Clause (RPS-RAC).
The RPS-RAC allows the company to recover renewable energy costs not included in its fuel factor.
