BluEarth Renewables has commissioned the 15MW Culliton Creek hydro plant near Squamish in British Columbia.
BluEarth collaborated with the Squamish Nation to ensure that Culliton Creek will provide ongoing, long-term economic benefits to the region, including employment and contracting opportunities.
The company said that during construction the project created over 200,000 worker hours of employment, of which approximately 13% were from the Squamish Nation.
BluEarth president and chief executive officer Grant Arnold said: “We are honoured that the Squamish Nation has agreed to share their land and resources, and grateful for the support of the local community.
“We look forward to continuing an open and prosperous relationship with the Squamish Nation for decades to come.”
Squamish First Nation chief Dale Harry said: “It is good to see First Nations, Business and Environment working together.
“The regular Implementation Committee meetings between the Nation and BluEarth helped keep our joint commitments on track, and also addressed concerns in a timely manner when they arose.”
