Japanese companies Venti, Mitsubishi and C-Tech have agreed to develop a 66MW wind farm in the north of the country.
The companies will build the JPY20bn Akita Katagami project between the cities Akita and Kagatami, they said.
Construction on the 22-turbine plant is scheduled to start in September and finish in early 2019. It will supply electricity to Tohoku Electric Power Co.
Local developer Venti will hold 51.0% interest in the venture, Mitsubishi 43.9% and C-Tech 5.1%.
The coastal areas around Akita are among Japan’s best locations for wind power development, according to the companies.
Venti targets wind farms along the country’s western seaboard, starting in Akita. It has started operating two plants and is developing another six projects with a combined 36 turbines.
