Nordex has won a turbine order totalling 72MW for the repowering of Dirkshof’s Reussenkoege citizen wind farm in Germany.
Reussenkoege will feature 20 N117/3600 3.6MW machines with 91-metre hub heights, which will replace the existing 2MW units.
The deal also includes a premium service contract for five years with a three-time option to extend by a further five years.
The wind farm is located in North Friesland near to the North Sea coast.
Installation will start this year with commissioning of the last turbine scheduled for 2022.
Nordex Group central region vice president Karsten Bruggemann said: “We are pleased about the order from Dirkshof.
“The average wind farm in Germany consists of two to three turbines. This is the result of topography and population density as well as noise and shadow effects.
“Wind farms with 20 turbines like Reussenkoege are large by German standards.
“As this project shows, repowering can certainly involve a larger amount of turbines as a group of old turbines can be replaced by a just few new turbines.
“And a particularly important factor in the case of the Reussenkoege project was the low sound power level of the N117/3600s.”
In the German auction held for onshore wind in December 2020 Dirkshof was awarded the contract for the 20-turbine Reussenkoege project.
