GE Energy Financial Services and Virginia Solar Group have started commercial operations at the 32MW Pacifico Energy Kumenan mega solar project in Okayama prefecture in Japan.
The project is GE Energy Financial Services’ first investment in Japan.
Engineering, procurement and construction of the solar farm was carried out by Toyo Engineering Corp, one month ahead of schedule, GE said.
Pacifico Energy will manage the Kumenan project.
GE said the solar farm was specially designed and constructed on mountainous terrain to “leverage accessible slopes, which help maximize power output and cost efficiencies”.
Electricity generated will be sold to Chugoku Electric Company, through a 20-year power purchase agreement at a fixed tariff.
Asahi Dengyo Corp will provide operations and maintenance services, GE added.
The project was financed by a ¥11bn loan from The Bank of Tokyo–Mitsubishi UFJ and The Chugoku Bank.
