Highland Council has rejected EDF Energy Renewables and Force 9 plans for the 13-turbine Cnoc an Eas wind farm near Loch Ness in the north of Scotland.
Planning officials tossed out the 44.2MW proposal under delegated powers, which meant the project did not go to a vote of elected members. Concerns included visual and landscape impacts.
EDF and Force 9 recently filed additional information promising a Scotland-wide economic boost of £28m from the project, including towers from CS Wind in Kintyre.
Cnoc an Eas would have been located around 9km west of the Drumnadrochit in the Great Glen and is designed around 136.5-metre turbines with top power of 3.4MW.
EDF/Force 9 can still pursue the project through the appeals process.
