Ingeteam has unveiled crowbarless power converters which it says improve the grid performance of wind turbines featuring doubly fed induction generators.
The converters’ fault ride through system will allow generators to remain fully grid compliant in weak grids and during voltage spikes, it said.
The system removes the need for the so-called active crowbar, a widely-used device that disables the power converter during voltage spikes to avoid damages.
Ingeteam R&D director Carlos Girones said: “Thanks to new software and hardware implemented in our crowbarless solution, the machine side converter is available at all times during the voltage sag, achieving injection times required by the most restrictive grid codes.”
