Canadian developer Natural Forces is proposing to build a pair of 15MW wind farms in the Peace River region of British Columbia.
The Nova Scotia company plans to construct the Zonnebeke and Sukunka wind farms on adjoining Crown land sites south of Chetwynd, the developer told the Peace River Regional District Board.
The projects are expected to cost about C$90m combined and comprise four wind turbines with 100m to 135m hub heights, it said.
The proponent was attracted to the province by utility BC Hydro’s standing offer program for small renewable energy projects. BC awarded an investigative license in 2013 allowing the developer to conduct planning studies and a meteorological mast has been gathering wind data for two years.
Natural Forces has submitted a draft development plan to provincial regulators. The developer aims to complete permitting and order turbines this year, start construction in 2017 and have the turbines up and running in 2018.
Natural Forces also is developing the 15MW Wolverine SOP scheme near Tumbler Creek.
