Newcomer Power Renewable Energy (PRE) has applied for a 120MW wind project in southeast Alberta.
PRE, a subsidiary of giant diversified holding company Power Corp of Canada, bought the Jenner project from Alberta developer Joss Wind Power.
Joss initiated the project in 2010 and will continue handling development through the permitting phase.
The wind farm will consist of 30 to 80 turbines, depending on the final turbine size and model selected, said PRE in a filing to the Alberta Utilities Commission.
Construction will include a 14km 240kV transmission line to connect the project substation to AltaLink’s existing substation in the town of Jenner.
The developer aims to start construction in 2017 and said the site could be expanded up to 300MW.
PRE parent company Power Energy holds ownership positions in Potentia Solar, a solar power producer, and Eagle Creek Renewable Energy, a US-based owner and operator of hydropower facilities.
