US community developer Northeast Wind Projects (NWP) is ramping up development of the 33MW Dry Lots wind farm in New York State after taking over from Ridgeline Energy.
NWP initiated the project in 2009 and Veolia unit Ridgeline took over the following year, before being bought by Atlantic Power.
The proponent started the Article 10 permitting process in 2012 but development slowed due to uncertainty over federal and state renewable energy incentives, NWP said in filings to the NY Siting Board.
The outlook for the project has since improved, according to NWP. Washington recently extended federal production tax credits and New York is working on a 50% clean energy standard by 2030.
“There is a much greater likelihood that Dry Lots will be able to obtain a firm funding source for the project,” said NWP.
The current project design includes 11 turbines on a plateau near Litchfield. The scheme will connect to a National Grid medium voltage transmission line that serves the surrounding communities.
NWP anticipates filing a preliminary scoping statement by September 2016.
