FoundOcean has been selected by Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects to connect monopiles and transition pieces for Dong Energy’s 258MW Burbo Bank 2 offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay in the UK.
FoundOcean said it expects to carry out the work in the summer using the ultra-high strength material MasterFlow 9500 from BASF.
The company has previously completed work for Van Oord on the 600MW Gemini offshore wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands.
Van Oord was contracted last year to transport and install Burbo 2’s 32 monopile foundations which have been fabricated by EEW. Transition pieces have been tackled by Bladt and Offshore Structures Britain.
The Dutch company will also supply and install the scour protection and provide the logistics between the fabrication ports in Germany, Denmark, the UK and the wind farm.
The Burbo 2 offshore construction campaign work will commence this summer.
FoundOcean Group chief executive officer Chris Brooks said: “This is FoundOcean’s first subcontract with Van Oord, using an ultra-high strength material, and so we’re keen to demonstrate both the speed and efficiency of our operations as well as the material’s performance.”
