Total Wind and Krøll Cranes have designed a new type of crane with increased height and weight capacities for installing onshore wind turbines.
The companies said the luffing crane has a lifting capacity of up to 125 tons at a hook height of up to 180 metres and can install turbines in wind speeds up to 15 metres per second.
The crane can also be relocated quickly – 36 hours – the companies added.
It is also aimed at installing turbines in hilly or forest areas, because the new crane requires less space and is assembled vertically.
A demo of the new crane will take place next week at Total Wind’s head office in Brande.
Total Wind chief executive officer Jens Nygaard said: “The new crane is called K1500L and is designed for installing wind turbines with a hub height above 140 metres.
“This is becoming ever more needed as many of the future wind farms will be located in low wind areas. Therefore, taller towers are needed in order to maximise wind potential.”
