Austrian developer WEB Windenergie is expanding its North American footprint with its first wind project in the United States.
Subsidiary SWEB Development has secured the rights to the 9MW Pisgah Mountain project in Maine in the northeast corner of the country.
“Our first project in the US gives us access to a very promising market,” said WEB chief operating officer Frank Dumeier.
The company helped develop a community wind farm portfolio in Nova Scotia and is using its Canadian team to build the Maine project. WEB established its North America headquarters in Halifax in Nova Scotia.
WEB plans to install five Vestas V90 2MW turbines at Pisgah Mountain this year, saying the project “represents a first step in the enhanced cooperation with Vestas.”
The project has an agreement with grid operator ISO-New England to connect to a nearby transmission line.
The wind farm, located in Clifton in central Maine, has a 20-year fixed rate contract. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2016.
