Xcel Energy has completed a $39m high-voltage transmission project in Texas which will allow more wind and solar onto the grid.
The Amarillo-based company said today that the new Bower-Howard transmission project on the Panhandle power grid would meet growing electricity demand in the area.
The 115kV transmission line runs for 38 miles and was energised on Wednesday.
Xcel said improvements are providing pathways to move wind and solar power generated in this region to new markets.
It said it has added 750MW of additional wind energy capacity to the regional energy mix since 2015, and plans to add another 140MW of solar energy capacity by the end of 2016.
The president of Xcel company Southwestern Public Service Company David Hudson said: “The Bowers-to-Howard project is one of dozens of high-value improvements we have completed in recent years.”
He added: “We’re pleased to be partners with regional industries as we make a lasting contribution to job opportunities and economic development for decades to come.”
