The Scottish National Party has filed a series of amendments to the UK Energy Bill in a bid to boost renewables and carbon capture and storage.
The group’s Westminster energy spokesperson Callum McCaig filed or refiled changes to the legislation that among other things would shift control over the Scottish onshore Renewables Obligation regime back to Edinburgh.
The SNP also called for Contracts for Difference allocation rounds to be held at least once in each year when the carbon intensity of electricity generation in the UK exceeds 100 grams per kilowatt-hour.
It is currently well above that rate with this morning’s figure at 390g/kWh.
McCaig also moved that the Secretary of State must develop, promote and implement a national strategy for CCS in time to meet the fifth and subsequent carbon budgets “at the scale and pace required”.
The amendments are unlikely to succeed.
