Weltec Group subsidiary Nordmethan has acquired the 3.3MW Falkenhagen biogas plant in Brandenburg in Germany.
The currently decommissioned plant will under a €2m modernisation and is expected to resume operations towards the end of 2016.
Modernisation includes replacing all the solid matter input systems and overall of six combined heat and power plants.
All the tank roofs and pumps will be replaced, while mixer technology will be serviced and replaced if necessary.
The plant will have five digesters, five post-digesters, fiver digestate storage units, as well as the six CHP plants.
Power will be fed into the public power grid and the exhaust heat from the CHP plant used for the digestate drying process.
Weltec director Jens Albartus said one of the reasons for the purchase was due to Nordmethan’s nearby biomethane plant, which has long-standing contacts with local farmers. Therefore, it was easy to find regional partners to supply substrates, such as maize silage and pig manure, for the Falkenhagen site.
Weltec may decide to expand the biomethane and biogas plant in the future.
