Transport company ALE has completed the delivery of 560 wind turbine components for the Amakhala wind project in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
The components consisted of three blades, one nacelle, one rotor hub, one drive train and four tower sections.
ALE made use of a new laydown outside the Port of Ngqura to collect the components, which arrived by means of eight geared vessels.
The company then transported the components 250km to the Amakhala site.
It employed 50 personnel in all the operations, while two mobile cranes and one telehandler were used for the port operations.
The convoy of components consisted of 10 special abnormal load trailers, 20 ALE light vehicle escorts and a police escort.
Approximately two turbines were delivered per week, ALE said.
