Brigg renewable energy plant has been completed three months ahead of schedule and has been passed over to the new owners for commercial operations to begin.
Construction began on the site of the old British sugar beet factory near Scawby Brook in Lincolnshire in August 2013.
After commissioning was completed on January 21, 2016, the plant was handed over to its owners BWSC North Lincs, a joint venture between Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and PensionDanmark. The plant started producing power on October 19, 2015.
The plant was built under a design and build contract by BWSC who also have responsibility for the operation and maintenance of it under a 15-year agreement which started on the date of completion.
BWSC project manager Colin Jones said: “We are delighted that the power plant has successfully passed through the commissioning process and is now fully operational, currently it is generating 40MWh of electricity every hour, which is enough to supply 75,000 homes and save over 250,000 tons of CO2 every year.”
“We have worked closely with North Lincolnshire Council and many other statutory agencies and it is a credit to the joint effort that has been put in by all parties that the project has been delivered ahead of time and within budget.”
