Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, BWSC and Estover Energy have started commercial operations at the 27MW Kent Renewable Energy combined heat and power plant in England.
The project, which is located in Sandwich, produces heat and power for the nearby Discovery Park science centre and local electricity consumers.
BWSC built the facility and will also be the operations and maintenance contractor, while EuroForest will supply locally sourced wood to fuel the plant.
Construction work generated over 250 direct full-time jobs, with 30 permanent positions created to operate the project over its 20-year lifetime.
CIP senior partner Christina Grumstrup Sorensen said: “After a 25-month successful construction period this is the moment we have all been looking forward to. We are delighted to see renewable power and heat being generated and delivered to local customers based on locally sourced wood.
“We have completed yet another successful biomass project ahead of time and within budget in strong cooperation with local authorities and our business partners including BWSC, EuroForest and Discovery Park, and we look forward to the continued cooperation for the next 20 years or more of plant operations.”
