Prysmian and Siemens are to build the 700MW Cobra subsea interconnector between Denmark and the Netherlands.
The partners will supply the 350km link for transmission operators Energinet.dk and TenneT using HVDC and VSC technology.
The cost of the project is expected to be more than €600m. It secured €86.5m from Europe due to its potential as part of a future North Sea offshore wind grid network.
Under the terms of the deal Siemens will provide two convertor stations at either end of the line while Prysmian will supply DC cables and offshore installation works.
The line is scheduled for completion in 2019 and is designed to increase security of supply in addition to green energy transfers.
“The Netherlands and Denmark will be able to exchange more wind energy since the wind in both countries is not blowing with the same force on every moment,” said TenneT.
