Hydro Quebec and US partner Eversource are hoping to supply 1090MW of electricity from projects in Canada to a tri-state initiative in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The Northern Pass Transmission proposal in response to the Clean Energy RFP would ship power from existing hydro projects over a high transmission line to Deerfield, New Hampshire.
“Our proposal offers the cleanest, most reliable and cost-effective energy product in the marketplace today,” said Eversource chief executive Thomas J May. “We are ready to move ahead with our partner Hydro-Québec to help solve New England’s energy challenges.”
The NH and Quebec portions of the planned line are at an advanced stage of siting and service is scheduled for May 2019. The RFP bid includes a fixed price construction cost of $1.6bn.
