US developer Apex Clean Energy has withdrawn plans to build a 50MW wind farm in Ashtabula County in Ohio.
“Ashtabula Wind has proceeded through the very early stages of the application process, but has concluded that it will no longer go forward with this project,” the proponent told Ohio regulators.
Apex proposed to build up to 19 turbines on a 982-acre brownfield industrial site.
Ashtabula is the second Ohio early stage project to be cancelled in recent weeks. Regulators granted NextEra Energy Resources’ request to withdraw the 185MW Honey Creek scheme earlier this month.
Apex is also developing the up to 200MW Republic wind project in Seneca and Sandusky counties, which was previously owned by Nordex USA.
Nordex submitted a pre-application notification letter in 2012, but there have been no further filings since 2013.
The Ohio Power Siting Board has requested a status report by 14 March indicating whether the proponent intends to pursue the Republic project or the case will be dismissed and closed.
