US developer Apex Clean Energy has kicked off early stage development of a wind farm in Tennessee, the largest project in the state.
The Crab Orchard scheme will likely consist of 20 to 25 turbines, public affairs manger Kevin Chandler told reNEWS.
“At this point, we anticipate a 71MW project size,” said Chandler. Crab Orchard will interconnect to the Tennessee Valley Authority grid using existing transmission lines that cross the project site.
Apex is just beginning a National Environmental Policy Act review process for the wind farm. The Virginia-based developer anticipates starting commercial operation in 2017.
“Crab Orchard wind represents a $100m investment in Cumberland County,” said Chandler.
“When built, the project will likely be the second and largest wind project in Tennessee, providing decades of local tax revenue and spending.”
