JBA Consulting has partnered ScottishPower Renewables and the Met Office to use JBA’s metocean forecasting and planning tool, Forecoast Marine, at two of SPR’s offshore wind farms.
The equipment will be used at Wikinger during the installation process and at East Anglia 1 to reduce health and safety risks. The tool has previously been used at SPR’s tidal array in the Sound of Islay.
The tool allows weather downtime strategies to be used at every stage of a project which reduces costs and safety risks. It can be used for any marine operation including those in the wave and tidal energy, oil and gas and marine construction sectors.
JBA Consulting director Dr Mark Lawless said: “We are delighted to be working with SPR and the Met Office on this exciting new project.
“Application of the tool to the Wikinger and East Anglia projects will provide powerful insight to support decision making at each stage of these developments, allowing significant cost, efficiency and H&S benefits to be realised.”
