Keen AI and SP Energy Networks have launched a digital tool to speed up new transmission grid connection assessments in the UK.
The Intelligent Connections Explorer tool provides estimated costs and timelines for potential connections and identifies viable routes, SP Energy Networks said.
The system processes network data to simulate power flows and constraints in less than five seconds, Keen AI added.
Demand for new transmission connections has increased more than fivefold between November 2024 and June 2025 as developers seek to bring projects online.
IConn digitises the transmission network to provide a unified view of existing, contracted and planned capacity.
The tool is designed to accelerate early-stage connection assessments and improve efficiency in handling high volumes of requests.
“We’re really pleased to see IConn taking shape as a practical tool that reflects the depth of knowledge within our engineering teams,” said Alana Cairns, transmission customer liaison manager at SP Energy Networks.
“Working with Keen AI has allowed us to turn that expertise into something customers can access from day one, giving them a clearer understanding of their connections options and helping to set more informed expectations.”
“We have taken a process that used to consume hours of engineering time and compressed it to seconds,” said Amjad Karim, chief executive officer and founder of Keen AI.
“That’s the kind of step change the UK needs to respond to the need for more clean energy.”
